Like a Lizard

The other day there was a lizard on my window sill. I decided to rescue it and take it outside where it belongs. As I got closer to it and it noticed my presence it started to run away, or really jump, in that way lizards do. Once captured, it still tried to wrestle its way out from my grip. It succeeded twice (I was holding him gently so as not to hurt him). We finally made it outside and I set him down on a railing so he could go on with his lizard life outside my home.

As I was nearing the lizard and he jumped away from me, I thought, man, I do that to God all the time. God, much like me in relation to the lizard, is a big, somewhat unknown “creature”. Sometimes, even though I know He means to help me, I forget and think He might be trying to harm me, so I start to “run” away. Sometimes, maybe, I succeed, but God won’t give up. He’s still there to catch me. Although, I think it’s a little different from the lizard – God isn’t going to force me to “go outside”. The idea is still the same – why are we running?
